Relation agents to users

#1

Hi there,

I have a question regarding agent management when load testing:

  • How do the number of simulated users (from test configuration) and number of agents registered interact?
-> For example: What happens when 5 agents are registered and test is configured to simulate 2 users simulteanously? Does the framework automatically use only 2 fixed agents of 5?
-> Or: What happens when 5 agents are registered and test is configured to simulate 40 users simulteanously? Is there a maximum number of users possible from framework side or are the agent hardware capabilities the only limiting factor?

Cheers,
Michael

Hi Michael,
there is no direct correlation between agents and users.
The distribution of users to agents is computed at the beginning of a run and stays the same for the whole run.

Regarding your examples:

In this case 2 of the 5 agents will start one thread per user and this will run during the whole load test.

In this case every agent will start 8 threads (users). There is no maximum number defined but as you assume the hardware will act as a limiting factor. So if you can’t reliable project the CPU usage, you need to have some smaller runs in order to calculate the needed resources later on.

Thanks,
Marcel
